A Brief Note on Deleuze on Creativity

Gilles Deleuze’s statement here that “the work of art is not an act of communication” is worth retaining, and I might add, worth arguing for. But in this speech, he strikes me as a thoroughly religious thinker by projecting his own wishful thinking onto the world as it stands–and by never acknowledging that this is what he’s up to. Creativity is solitary; all art is an act of resistance; etc.–for Deleuze these ideals are a given, and their status as ideals remains concealed.
